Mariella Rose Foundation Fund Launches in Dyslexia Awareness Week – Creating greater opportunity for young people with dyslexia.

A ground breaking fund inspired by the kindness, enthusiasm and determination of Mariella Rose has launched this week. The Mariella Rose Foundation Fund will unlock greater equality of opportunity for young people with dyslexia and help them understand their strengths, build confidence and pursue their ambitions.

Mariella tragically died in a road traffic accident on 30 March 2026, aged just 17. Known for her kindness, infectious enthusiasm and determination to help others, she was passionate about pushing for greater understanding at College and the workplace for young people with Dyslexia.

Her honesty and determination now sit at the heart of a lasting legacy built around a simple belief: with the right support, “impossible” can become “I’m possible”.

Undergoing a professional diagnostic assessment at 14, Mariella described feeling “relieved”, having previously wondered, “What is wrong with me?”

Access to diagnosis is limited to most families due to the high cost of between £500 – £600 but can make a huge impact in ensuring support is in place for young people to thrive in study and the workplace.

Launching during Dyslexia Awareness Week (5 – 11 October), the Mariella Rose Foundation Fund advances equality of opportunity for young people with Dyslexia by seeking to reduce financial and social barriers to diagnosis, support and achievement.

Inspired by Mariella’s legacy, donations and community support will make it possible to provide:

Professional Diagnostic assessment grants – supporting low-income families and working within Educational settings to remove financial barriers to professional assessment.
Mariella Meet-Ups – Bringing young people together including those with dyslexia, to share experiences and build confidence.
Mentoring support – Mentoring and practical guidance for young people navigating education, training and employment.
The Mariella Rose Rising Star Award – A recognition award for young people in Education or  workplace who demonstrate Mariella’s values and behaviours. Advocacy and social barriers – Advocacy and Information to break down social barriers and stigma surrounding young people with dyslexia and their families.

Founders and Mariella’s parents Chris and Christine said:

“The fund helps turn the enormous sense of loss felt by those who knew Mariella into something positive that she was passionate about advocating for.
Mariella is remembered for her kindness, determination and ambition as well as her pushing for greater understanding and support for young people with dyslexia.
A professional Dyslexia diagnostic assessment can provide a young person with awareness and greater understanding of how they think which really supports building their confidence. It is also a vital piece of evidence to help secure reasonable adjustments through education, training and employment”

Clare Woodard, Deputy Chief Executive of HEY Smile Foundation, said:

“Mariella’s family have shown incredible courage in choosing to turn their loss into something that will help other young people. The Mariella Rose Foundation Fund is about opening doors, building confidence and ensuring that dyslexia is never a barrier to achieving full potential. We are proud to provide a safe and accountable home for the Fund as it begins its journey.”

During Dyslexia Awareness Week, supporters are invited to celebrate dyslexic strengths, share their experiences and help the Fund turn Mariella’s vision into action. Every donation will help more young people access assessment, support, connection and opportunities that could change the course of their lives.
