I recently participated in the HEY Smile Foundation Trustee Academy programme, and it was an enriching experience that I highly recommend to anyone interested in becoming a charity trustee.

Each of the five sessions focused on different aspects of being a trustee. The format was engaging, allowing for both learning and interaction. The speakers were exceptional – very knowledgeable and informative, providing valuable insights into the roles and responsibilities of a trustee.

I gained a fantastic foundational knowledge of what to look out for and what to expect as a charity trustee. I now feel equipped to start exploring trusteeships that align with my values and that can benefit from my PR and communications knowledge and skills.

The topics covered included governance, financial management, risk management, fundraising, and the importance of strategic planning. The sessions were not only educational but also inspiring, emphasising the impact trustees can have on their communities.

The networking opportunities were invaluable. Connecting with other participants allowed us to share experiences and best practices, creating a supportive environment where we could learn from one another.

Overall, the Trustee Academy programme is an excellent initiative run by the HEY Smile Foundation, designed to equip individuals with the skills and confidence needed to make a meaningful difference in the charity sector. I left each session feeling more prepared and motivated to take on the responsibilities of a trustee.
