Isabelle walks miles for Bridlington Hospital Charity

Waking a mile a day is a challenge for some people – but a Flamborough youngster with underlying health problems has completed double that – and clocked up a grand total of 36 miles in just two weeks after being inspired by Capt Tom Moore.

Nine-year Isabelle Locker undertook a challenge to walk 30 miles in May – either completing a mile a day or an extended walk on other days.

But Isabelle smashed through her target in just two weeks – much to the delight of her proud mum Kate.

Flamborough school pupil Isabelle has now completed her target of 30 miles, and for good measure added six more, taking her to 36 miles in total.

As well as undertaking all the walking, Isabelle has raised a fantastic sum of £495 for the Friends of Bridlington Hospital Charity.

Her final walk, which was her longest at 8 miles, took in some of the scenic coastline around Flamborough and Isabelle and her mum had an added bonus of spotting a puffin.

Said Mum Kate: “I decided to challenge her to walk the 30 miles becuase Isabelle had seen Captain Tom on television and wanted to do something to help too.”

Kate went on to explain: “In September 2018 Isabelle wasn’t well and we attended the Walk-In centre at Bridlington Hospital. Isabelle actually had pneumonia and a partially collapsed lung. Thanks to the quick response from the staff at Bridlington they got Isabelle into an ambulance and on her way to Scarborough Hospital. So we thought there was no better place to benefit from some extra funds during this pandemic than our local hospital through the Friend’s of Bridlington Hospital scheme.”

“The funds they raise are used for a variety of different rescourses directly for the Bridlington hospital.”

“Any further support either through donations or sharing the link would be greatly appreciated.” added Kate.
