ALL ABOARD THE SANTA STEAM TRAIN SPECIAL

Looked after children from the local area enjoyed a magical steam train ride to meet Santa on Saturday, December 10th, at Pickering in North Yorkshire.

Over 77 children and their carers gathered outside Hull Truck Theatre, early on Saturday morning, ready to climb aboard coaches for a fun-filled day out to meet Santa.

Coach entertainment was provided by Smile’s very own festive elves, Tinsel-Toes Helen and Sugarplum Sarah, who gave out colouring packs, letters to Santa, teddies and festive chocolates.

Once at Pickering, Smile’s guests enjoyed a mince pie and hot chocolate, before watching the steam train pull into the station.

North Yorkshire Moors Railway operates the service, with their staff dressing up as elves and reindeer to bring the experience to life for the children.

During the scenic train ride through North Yorkshire, children are invited to go and visit Santa in his log cabin at the end of the train, where the receive a present and get the chance to tell Santa what they’d like for Christmas.

This is the third year Smile has taken a group of looked after children on the Santa Steam Train Special, and with the help of the Hull Fostering Team, SOVA and the support of our generous funding partners, it will hopefully continue for many years to come.
